Death is inevitable; this concept is easy to understand. The story Tell-Tale Heart written by Edgar Allen Poe describes the narrator’s insurmountable fear of death. A fear that haunts him day and night, driving him to rid himself of death itself by means of premeditated murder. By attentively conceiving a plan with a clear motive, the narrator commits the horrendous crime acutely knowledgeable of the dire consequences he may suffer. The meticulous process by which the narrator properly rids himself of death portrays his careful planning of the crime he committed. A plan he thoroughly executes throughout the story, therefore exhibiting his cunning ways. However, he merely approaches the decision with caution and thought. Ergo meaning that the murder was p remeditated and the narrator was clearly driven to conceive a thorough plan to rid himself of death. Because the narrator had a clear motive, it is apparent he willfully murdered the old man. Throughout the story, the narrator carefully observes his motive for ceasing the old man’s life. â€Å"I think it was his eye! ... one of his eyes resembled that of a vulture †¦ whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold †¦ so †¦ I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever† (Poe). Since it is common to have a drive in order to pursue any task, it is not abnormal the narrator had a clear motive to rid himself of the eye. The narrator asserts in the text that the the peculiar physical appearance of the old man’s eye drove him to terminate the old man. Therefore, it it is evident that the narrator willfully killed the old man. Some may argue that taking a life merely due to physical appearance is exceedingly abnorma l.
