The United States is the second most obese country in the world. Obesity is accounted for 10 percent of all deaths in the U.S. Obesity is becoming so sever that people are beginning to believe that it is a disease. The definition of disease is â€Å" Disease decreases life expectancy and impairs the normal functioning of the body.† Obesity is reported as an â€Å"epidemic† because of the continuous increase in rates each year. Obesity is argued to be a preventable risk factor for other diseases and conditions, but in reality it is a disease. (ProCon) In the United States today more than 23 million children are obese or overweight. People do not realize the severity that this disease has and the risks that come with it. Children also spend hours a day using media, such as cellphones and computers, and hanging with their friends this takes away from the time they could be spending exercising. Children need to add more physical activity to their schedules to help with their unhealthy eating habits. It is said that a child should get at least sixty minutes of exercise each day. In their daily physical activity children should exercise hard enough where they increase their heart rate and sweat. Schools are the primary source for prevention and remediation of obesity. With schools including physical activities the children are being active and making healthy choices (Green). By the year 2009, about 98% of all U.S. high schools contained vending machines. In these machines are junk food, snacks that contain no nutritional value. Students choose the cheap and easy way out at school. Instead of standing in line waiting for a school meal, students will go to the quick vending machine and grab a bag of chips. Including vending machines in schools has worsened the obesity epidemic.(OVOC) The two main provide rs of children are their parents and schools. In the home, parents provide children with the food choices they want. When the child is at school a food menu is provided with healthy options and serving proportions. Along with the food menu,
